There are very few things more frustrating than finally getting some time to yourself and ending up bored, feeling like there is nothing for you to do. If you keep finding yourself with nothing to do in your downtime, then you would probably benefit from starting a project. By setting out something very particular that you want to get done, you will always have something to work towards if you find yourself bored at home and, hopefully, you’ll end up feeling more fulfilled during your downtime as a result.

Take Up a Hobby
One of the easiest projects to take up is to simply decide on a skill or activity that you want to start regularly doing. This can be anything from learning a new instrument to birdwatching; the only requirement is that it’s something you enjoy doing. Congratulations, you’ve officially taken up a new hobby.
There are many benefits to regularly engaging in a hobby. The most notable of this is how it will reduce your stress and provide an overall boost to your mental health and mood.
Learn a Useful Skill
If you are like most people, then you doubtless have a long list of skills that you want to at some point learn to make your life easier. These skills could be anything from learning a specific language to learning how to change a tire on your car. Dedicating a little time every day would allow you to learn any of these skills quickly and help to keep you from getting bored in your downtime.
Learn a “Useless” Skill
Along with this list of useful skills, you probably have a list of skills that you are interested in learning, but most people don’t consider particularly “useful”. Well, forget what other people think and learn them anyway. Whether you want to learn to play the bassoon or juggle, the only thing that should matter is whether you’re enjoying yourself. Put aside a little time from your downtime and spend it learning what you want to learn; you’ll be grateful that you did.
Build Some Furniture
A really fun project to engage with is planning out a piece of furniture or even an entire redesign to an area of your home that you would really like to have done and then go ahead and make it happen yourself. Once you know exactly what you want, you can have a lot of fun learning how to design and build the furniture yourself. It is advisable, at least initially, to stick to a relatively simple build. Something you could put together with some sawing, a nail gun, and some Firmahold collated nails. Once you’ve done that, you can decide for yourself if you want to keep to more straightforward builds or get a little more involved. The important thing is that you keep yourself engaged and entertained.
Get in Shape
One of the best things you can do with your downtime is to spend it keeping healthy. Good health is, well, good for you, and keeping fit is a great way to improve your mental health as well as your physical. Taking an hour or so every day to work out and get in shape will do wonders for you; all you have to do is take that step.
